Other terms for UWB include impulse, carrier-free, baseband, time domain, nonsinusoidal, orthogonal function, and large-relative-bandwidth radio/radar signals. According to Multispectral, the term ultra wideband was first applied to these systems around 1989 by the US Department of Defense.
